310x350_schloss seeseitig Schwerin Castle Situated on an island and seemingly floating on the waves of Schwerin Lake the fairytale-like castle sparkles with golden towers and a splendid golden dome on. The castle is called "Neuschwanstein of the North". There is hardly an equivalent to this magnificent building.

Parts of it designed by famous royal Prussian garden masters in Baroque as well as English style. Pavillons, statues, canals, iron bridges, roses and much more are completing the romantic garden landscape.

Twelve Lakes are surrounding and embracing the old residence city. Germany's third biggest lake offers uncountable activities in and on water or just a magnificent view.
Staatliches_Museum_Schwerin_310x350 State Gallery Old and new Masters of Fine Art meet at the museum right next to the castle. The dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin started collecting art over 300 years ago. By now the collection of dutch and flemish paintings is supposed to be the biggest one in Europe outside the Netherlands.
Cafe Röntgen on the marketplace_310x350_(2) Historic Old Town It is only a short walk from the castle to reach the historic city centre. Among palaces and impressive squares and manor houses from the 19th century you also find medieval looking buildings mostly made of timber framework. Must-Sees are the market square and the Gothic cathedral.
