From anaconda to zebra

The Schwerin Zoo

Tigerbabys im Schweriner Zoo

Our bears, otters, lions, flamingos and rhinos all love to have visitors! The zoo in Schwerin is situated between the three lakes of Schweriner See, Fauler See and Ostorfer See. It was originally founded as a park for local animals in 1956. Today it is home to more than 700 animals (around 120 species), everything from anaconda to zebra. The tiger mountain, the lions’ lair, the farm with its petting zoo, the mouse house and the forest trail are only some of the highlights. Nevertheless the visitors’ favourites usually are the free-roaming squirrel monkeys and the small prairie dogs peeking out of their burrows. Of course there are also various spots to take a break and have a rest - be it at the penguins’ enclosure, by the water birds’ meadow, watching the pelicans, opposite the gibbons’ cage or next to the rustic woodhouse.
