The socio-cultural centre “DER SPEICHER” is an institution set up by the federal capital of Schwerin and is situated in the centre of the historical district “Schelfstadt”. Originally used as the city’s brewery in 1888, the building underwent several renovations and was reopened in 1996. Since then, it has been a magnet for all Schwerin residents who are interested in culture and who want to discover something different. “DER SPEICHER” hosts concerts (blues, rock, reggae, folk, tango, flamenco, klezmer music etc), readings, cabaret and comedy and is also open to events for children, meetings and movie screenings. 
Among its famous guests are stars like Mick Taylor, Canned Heat, Tony Sheridan, Gary Lucas, Chris Spedding, Colin Hay, THEM, George de Vore, Abi Wallenstein, Rick Vito, Wolfram Huschke, HBB, John Campelljohn, Kevin Coyne, Damo Szuzuki, Gwyn Ashton, The Blues Band, Inga Rumpf, Anne Haigis, Bettina Wegner, Uwe Steimle, Werner Schneider, Kurt Böwe, Wolfgang Stumph, Harry Rowohlt and Max Goldt.
