The palace is surrounded by the “Burggarten”. The famous court gardener Theodor Klett had it cultivated according to his designs in 1860. The “Burggarten” is laid out over two levels - one reaches the lake shore and the other rests on the artificial grotto and the beautiful Orangery.
A swing bridge connects the palace island with the baroque Palace Gardens, followed by the English garden and the greenhouse garden. The entire park was first mentioned in the year 1633. It was Jean Legeay who redesigned the Palace Gardens between 1748 and 1756, after they had been neglected for some time. He also planned the cross channel and the green arcades. In 1862, the court gardener Theodor Klett added the pergolas and expanded the lawn areas. Moreover, various sculptures by Permoser, the garden pavilion and a statue of the grand duke Friedrich Franz II on his horse attract the attention of visitors to the Palace Gardens.
